BHS Teacher Remembers Former Sports Glory

In
By Natalie Bigelow

Just as our Berkeley High School teachers decided to continue their time in school, many have also continued with their sports careers. One of these teachers is Peter Bloomsburgh, who has participated in many different sports throughout his life.
Though he’ll deny it, Bloomsburgh is quite the athlete, having participated in many sports, ranging from crew to track to swimming. Beginning with fifth grade games of keep-away, a schoolyard game involving wrestling, Bloomsburgh claims to be an unlikely athlete, calling himself “slow, short and weak.”

By Julian Morris-Walker

The football program at Berkeley High School has been extremely successful over the past couple of years. And of its many players, Keir Abrams could possibly be the most dedicated. Playing since his freshman year under Coach Alonzo Carter, Abrams has worked his way up the ladder of the football program. The in-league competetion thus far has been fierce. The team and Abrams started the season on a high note, winning against rival Pittsburg on September 24, but hit a rough patch with last Friday’s loss to Pinole Valley.

The Berkeley High women’s tennis season is underway and the team is coming off a huge road victory against archrival Alameda High School, winning a tight match 4-3. The magnitude of the victory cannot be understated, as this was the first win against Alameda for the Jackets in recent memory. This is the team’s first step towards their ultimate goal of becoming league champions and getting to the North Coast Sectional (NCS) playoffs. The win keeps Berkeley High’s undefeated league record in tact at 5-0. “In my four years, we’ve never beaten Alameda,” explains senior captain Jenni Lee.

By Dominic Francisco

When walking along Milvia Street, one can see the Berkeley High School athletic training room, which rests in the middle of the M-Building, also know as the ‘old gym’. Inside the room, marked with a red strip of metal, one can find therapy for any sports–related injury; just walk inside.

Berkeley High Teachers Remember Talented Athletic Past

In
By Asa Burroughs

It may come as a surprise to some students, but most members of the Berkeley High School faculty had a life prior to academia. Though some of the faculty seem as if they have spent their entire life administrating knowledge to teenagers, this is not the case. Most of them attended college, many of whom even suited up for their school’s sports teams. The athletic pasts of many of BHS’ staff members are either shadowed purposely or quite apparent.
