Prakash Stec
Prakash Stec is the kind of hard working, dedicated student that makes Berkeley High proud. He has taken Latin since freshman year, and played BHS varsity volleyball for two years.
In sophomore year, he joined the mountain biking team for a season, and found it both extremely fun but also exhausting, encouraging him to switch back to volleyball senior year. He is a member of the Berkeley International High School program, and he likes how the classes connect — his English class relates with history class, et cetrea. He is also passionate about renewable energy, and plans to major in Mechanical Engineering at UC Berkeley in the upcoming school year. A regret about Berkeley High, however, is the limited ability to take diverse classes in the IB program — “[the IB program] is kind of strict, but I enjoyed the econ class and Politics and Power, ” Prakash said. His favorite things about Berkeley High are the teachers, including Karla Herndon, who was his Latin teacher all four years, and the friends he has made.
Herndon has very much enjoyed having him as a student as well. “He is the captain of morale in the classroom… he brings out some of the most shy students so that they are so outgoing I almost worry about them in the real world.”
Herndon also raves about Prakash’s constructivism and helpfulness. “He keeps me young, and he’s responsible for about a fourth of the grey hairs on my head.” Herndon went on to comment that since freshman year, “he’s gotten considerably more voluble.” Prakash is headed for great heights after graduation.
